Online Class 9 Maths - Fractions to Decimals and Decimals to Fractions

In this session we will learn to convert a fractions to decimal number and vice versa. In the previous session we have learnt the concept of rational numbers.
Now, we will learn to convert fractions to decimals.
Let us consider 3 11 16 rational numbers: —; —; — 5 3 11 Divide the numerator by the denominator
In the first case, we observe that the remainder becomes zero and the division gets over. Such type of decimal numbers are called the terminating 3 decimals. So, we have - = 0.6 5
In the second case, we see that at every stage, the remainder is 2 and division does not get over but goes on and on. Moreover, the last digit, 6 of the quotient repeats itself. Such type of a decimal numbers are called nont erminating, recurring decimal numbers.
