Online Class 9 Maths - Fractions to Decimals and Decimals to Fractions

In this session we will learn to convert a fractions to decimal number and vice versa. In the previous session we have learnt the concept of rational numbers.

Let us consider 3 11 16 rational numbers: —; —; — 5 3 11 Divide the numerator by the denominator
In the first case, we observe that the remainder becomes zero and the division gets over. Such type of decimal numbers are called the terminating 3 decimals. So, we have - = 0.6 5
In the second case, we see that at every stage, the remainder is 2 and division does not get over but goes on and on. Moreover, the last digit, 6 of the quotient repeats itself. Such type of a decimal numbers are called nont erminating, recurring decimal numbers.

One to One Correspondence and Equivalent Sets Suppose the members of the family are dinning and plates are prepared on the table then there is a One to one correspondence between the set of family members and the plates prepared. We will indicate this correspondence by the symbol If each element of a set A is associated with one and only one element of a set B and each element of B is associated with one and only one element of set A, then the sets A and B are said to be in one to one correspondence. If both the sets are finite and if they are in one to one correspondence, it is obvious that they have the same number of elements. If two sets have the same number of elements, they are said to be equivalent sets. Using symbol, we write A B. Between two equivalent sets, a one to one corr...
