Causes of French Revolution notes for class 9

Social - At the end of the 18th century, social conditions in France were severely unequal and deceptive. The first two estates, priests and nobles, were the most ancestral classes in French society. The majority of the population, on the other hand, was made up of the third estate, which included farmers and labourers.

Economic - As a result of Louis XVI's numerous wars, the state treasury was depleted. The engagement of France in the American War of Independence, as well as the incorrect taxing structure, exacerbated the issue.

Politically, Louis XVI produced a lot of discontent among the people who were living in great poverty and starvation.

Philosophers such as Rousseau rejected the monarchical model in favour of the principles of human equality and popular sovereignty.

The French Revolution, which lasted from 1789 to 1799, was the start of the European Revolution. The revolution primarily resulted in the establishment of a constitutional monarchy and a major diminution in royal and feudal power.
