SELECTION PROCESS Class 12 Business studies

It's challenging to find the correct kind of applicants to fill diverse jobs in an organisation. There are several steps in a well-organized selection process. Before being chosen for a position, every job candidate must pass all phases. If he is not found eligible at any point during the process, he will not be considered for the next steps, and the applicant will be denied.

1. Preliminary Screening and Receiving Applications
This is a preliminary screening carried out by lower-level managers to weed out unqualified candidates. An application form is used to keep track of a candidate's qualifications, experience, and other information in writing. The screening committee thoroughly examines all applications for qualification and experience after they are received. A preliminary interview may be requested of the candidate in order to obtain extra information not included in the application form. Candidates that are unsuitable are automatically rejected.

2. Selection test - After screening applications, candidates are divided into groups based on the organization's needs. Candidates are then asked to take written or other tests. The purpose of testing is to determine which abilities and aptitudes are required to execute the job effectively. It includes a variety of tests, such as:

i. Proficiency exams, sometimes known as occupational or trade tests, are one type of test. Proficiency examinations are designed to assess the skills that individuals have already acquired.

ii. Aptitude tests - Aptitude refers to a person's ability. Aptitude tests assess a candidate's ability and potential for growth. In general, there are two sorts of aptitude tests: cognitive and motor.

iii. Intelligence exam - used to assess an applicant's mental aptitude and capacity. For various types of employment, psychologists have created a variety of verbal and nonverbal IQ tests.

iv. Personality exams– personality tests are used to see how job candidates respond in real-life scenarios.

Employment tests are commonly used to assess an applicant's suitability for a position. They bring out a person's strengths and flaws, which can be evaluated before a job is offered. The tests must be well-designed.

3. Employee Interview - The employee interview is the next phase. It entails a face-to-face meeting between the employer and the candidate. The interviewers will ask both job-related and general inquiries. The manner in which a candidate answers the questions is assessed. The main goal of an employment interview is to obtain more information about a candidate that is not available via the application form or the employee exam. The candidate's communication ability can be assessed during an employee interview. During the interview, the information provided in the application blank might be double-checked.
