Problems on trains
Problems on trains are similar to ‘Time and Distance’ problems. The only difference here is that we have to consider the length of the train as distance while solving problems on trains.
Some important points:
- To convert ‘x’ Km/hr into m/s
– Multiply x with 5/18
- To convert ‘y’ m/s into Km/hr
– Multiply y with 18/5
- Distance covered by a train of length L meters while passing a stationary pole is equal to the length of the train.
- Distance covered by a train of length L meters while passing a stationary object of length P meters is equal to the Length of the train & length of the stationary object (L + P) meters.
- If two trains are moving in the opposite direction to each other and their speeds are x km/h and y km/h then their relative speed is equal to (x + y) km/h.
- If two trains are moving in the same direction to each other and their speeds are x km/h and y km/h (x > y) then their relative speed is equal to (x –y) km/h.
